Rear Sway Bar brackets broken away !
Hello to all . new member/owner.
I purchased a 2004 with 90k on the clock a few weeks ago. And a week later it was off the road and now sits on axle stands. I didn't really hear any noises when i took it for a spin before i bought it but not long after i started to hear a clunking noise which i couldn't really pinpoint. I had to remove all the wheels because i was having the wheels refurbished so had a chance to look round. I have found the sway bar bush mounting bracket on one side has broken away from the chassis. I scoured the internet and read a few things on this forum and realised i have a bit of an issue. I needed to see the damage and get access to the inside to see how bad it was. I stripped the boot interior and removed the petrol tank to see that there was previous welding that had been done(not very well) and that this has failed and was very corroded. Im now at a loss as to how it can be fixed. I am assuming it needs a plate welding inside and brackets being made to replace the ones that were snapped/corroded.
Has anyone come across this ? Has anyone fixed this ? and does anyone know someone that can come and repair this for me.
Obviously i cannot get the car to anyone to see it now that the petrol tank has been removed. Obviously very disappointed that i purchased this car with this sort of problem.
Any help would be much appreciated.

hi bill sorry to hear about your issues, apart from a mobile welder coming to look at it, would it not be feasible to losely refit the tank to take it to a local bodyshop for them to weld up the brackets..best of luck...chris
Hi Chris , if i knew a garage would do the work , i would get the vehicle to them. removing the tank was a pita ... and of course it needs to be out to see the work that needs doing. Really need someone that knows if it can be done without removing suspension etc. Just need to find someone. Was hoping someone could recommend a mobile welder really.
