Default Crossfires for sale that are no longer for sale

Is there any way to clean out the new classifieds? I have been looking for a Crossfire to buy, and inevitably, when I read down the posts on the particular car, somewhere way down it will say either "Sold!" or "Changed mind - not selling now"
Is there any way to take down these ads? I think this posting area should only show cars that are currently actively for sale.
Older posts, or for cars that have already been sold, should be removed.
Just a suggestion!
Thanks!

Nothing is erased except inappropriate posts.
Nobody has the time to keep track of this kind of thing and it does help people to know the cost of cars.

Exactly
Thank you for explaining this

Provide a way for the original poster to remove the ad/post. Surfing the various sections is frustrating with all the sold/not for sale posts cluttering up the board.

there are a few things we are working on to auto expire listings after a certain time period. You can then use the search pane to only look for active listings, which solves all the issues noted. I think.

Relying on someone to remove a post is wishful thinking. Some people cannot even bother to say they fixed their car as per a suggestion.
It’s a case of fixed and forget the thanks.

Thanks Robb, that would be a great addition if it works!

That'll work! I like the idea of having for "sale listings" expire if they are not deleted, but some of the old threads contain useful info, so maybe archiving them would be better.

I don't think the posts should be removed or deleted, but wasting time going thru endless posts of "sold" cars should be an OPTION for the reader, not the only way to find what's for sale.

I agree. Someone pointed out that this is a good way to see the pricing history on our cars, and that is a very valid point. So, I retract my suggestion to delete for sale posts.
But I WOULD like to see the posts inverted, so the newest posts are always at the top. If this was used in a "For Sale" thread, then it would be much easier to see cars that are for sale currently, while keeping access to past sales information freely available.

You can decide if you want the new posts to show up first or last in the thread, just select your preference.

Its not hard really.

First if you have active moderators on a site you have two sections. One current and one sold. Move the post when it sells or is old.

The second one requires addons to the site but with vbulletin thats easy enough. You run an addon that auto moves the thread to an archive section x days after thread creation. This can be labeled sold/inactive. With this setup only new/active for sales are in the for sale section. One addon a site was using would send out an email to the thread owner periodically asking them if the item was still for sale. If they failed to respond it was moved. I dont remember what that addon was but it was cool.

I host a bunch of sites like this so I know it works.

I had seen somewhere that someone (I think an admin maybe) mentioned they wanted to close old threads. Thats real easy. Most of the sites I host run an addon that auto closes/locks old threads to keep people from dredging them up.

Members can currently mark their own threads as sold. Members who are looking to buy, can search and sort to exclude any listing that is not currently active. The tools are in place, the membership need to use them.
