Default Any Earth Quake INFO?

I hope everybody is OK, and there wasn't too much damage.
Now, was anybody driving their Crossfire when the earth quake happened?
If so, did it have any effect on your Yaw Sensor?

We're about 25 miles from the epicenter here at Meguiar's and we were shaking pretty darn good. It started as a strong shaking and kept getting stronger for maybe 5 seconds or so, held that level and then slowly tapered off over perhaps another 20 seconds. Looking down through a moderately long, wide corridor you could see a lot of movement. A couple of coworkers experienced their first quake since moving to California in the last couple of years - really freaked them out. And yet, compared to some others we've had here, this was nothing.

I've heard no reports of any real damage, except for a water main break near the epicenter.

We had three corporate guys in the office from VA. It rattled em' pretty good. They stood up in the meeting and were pretty spooked. Our office is on the third floor - so I'm sure they were thinking how the hell do we get out of here. When they realized no one else was running for cover they just looked around the room. We had fun teasing them a bit.

Were about 90 west from the epicenter. Had a couple of good rolls but if the pictures don't start falling off the wall....then it ain't going to be the Big One!!

Office Manager at work: "Did you feel it?"

Me: "Feel what?"

LOL....Brent. This is the only one I ever experienced.

Well I actually didn't feel or notice a quake. Been through so many though that it wouldn't have made a difference if I had felt it.

You're right about a magnitude 5 quake being a non-event out here in CA. As Brian alludedd to, if pictures aren't falling down then theres nothing to get excited about.

It turns out the epicenter was roughly right where the 57 and 60 Freeways meet, placing it about 20 miles from our offices - just a bit closer than I originally thought. It seems there were some brick facades knocked down near the epicenter and other light damage to some local buildings, but nothing serious. Still, had anyone been walking on the sidewalk in front of the buildings that lost their brick facade there would have been fatalities.

I found it interesting that seismologists state the duration of the quake itself was just 2 seconds (at 8 miles below the surface) but because of the various types of ground compositions in the area and the speed at which different frequencies travel through them, we felt a duration of almost 30 seconds. Some local areas felt a rolling motion while others, like us, felt a prolonged and fairly harsh jolting.

I live about 6 miles from the epicenter. It was pretty exciting. Personally I enjoy earthquakes, but maybe thats because I've never experienced any big loss from them other than plates or glasses breaking.

But yeah my house was rolling quite a bit, not as bad as back in the early 90s but moving none-the-less. A few steins fell from my collection, but didn't break luckily. As soon as I heard the rumble I ran for the big-screen tv. haha

Just like Mike said though, in some places its a rolling feeling, and other places it just hits like hammer. For me it was rolling, very close sharp rolls (imagine waves 10 feet apart and 3ft high. thats what it felt like)
