Assuming no trauma to a tire (nails, snares, tears, punctures, etc.) and assuming "normal" driving conditions (not out on the raceway or anything) - what is the life, or range of life, that it would be reasonable to expect from the factory-issued Continentals? How many K miles?

 

Rough guess of 24,000 to 28,000 based on your variables.

 

I can't speak for the Conti's. I have 28k on my PS2's and expect to get another 2-5k out of them. I would think one would get better tread wear with the Conti's as the PS2's are more of a performance tire which = poorer mileage.

Edit: Oops, I spoke relying on my common sense (big mistake on my part). I just did a comparison using TireRack as a source between the Conti's, PS2's and Eagle F1's. The tread wear results:

1st place, Eagle F1's - 7.9
2nd place, PS2's - 7.6
3rd place, Conti's - 6.7

 

I just replaced my original all season Contis at 36k. A winter in St. Louis could be tough with no tread!

 

I have slightly more than 28K on my conti touring contacts. They are about done now, maybe another 1K or so.

 

Just ordered a new set of conti's. I have 43K miles on original. Mostly highway but should have replaced rears about 6-7K miles ago.

 

22k on mine, plenty of tread left. But I drive like Fred MacMurray.

I swear, worrying about a flat that has failed to materialize is the only thing that has marred my ownership pleasure.

I'm at 13K, and the tires are due for a change, but I am an aggressive driver driving in the Miami heat which aids to the tire wear. This is the average life span of high performance tires on my cars. My next set will be the Nitto NT555. I think they are the best performance tire for the money. Great grip, quiet ride, predictable when they break loose, and very good wet traction.

 

13K, yeah I'd say you're more than aggressive. If you're that hard on tires, what does the rest of the
car look like? No disrespect, but it sounds as if the car is being trashed. I have 30K on my PS2's
with easily another 2-3K left to go. My car is not being pushed hard but it is driven in the heat of the
desert southwest, much hotter than Miami.

None taken. The car looks perfect except for a few door dings because of inconsiderate Miami drivers. I have it washed at least once a week and waxed once a month. I bought this car because of its performance, as I like to drive hard, and the car takes every bit of my abuse and asks for more.

 

I'd think of it as enthusiastic or spirited driving. Cornering at higher speeds will wear the tires quickly without putting major wear and tear on the car.

I'm at 9,800 miles and the rears are getting close to the wear bars. Keep in mind that I really do not like these Contis and show very little respect for them.
The Goodyear F1 will be my first choice.

 

i had my conti-touring (rears only) replaced at 16,500 miles...i was sliding through too many turn in the wet weather of south fla...the front are great and still have like 6,000 - 8,000 miles left on them. My new tires were the Conti-sport 2's (rear) and they are an awesome tire. they have 8,000 miles on them and they don't look the slightest bit worn.

 

I'm definitely not the nicest on my tires and am at the wear bars on the back tires. The front have plenty of meat left. It just turned over 20k today.
