Default Question about smaller wheels

Has any one put a smaller size wheel on their Crossfire. I have had bad luck in the past with low profile tires. Shattering rims and ruining tires from hitting pot holes. I was thinking about 17's on the front and 18's on rear just to give me more rubber between the rim and the road. Just wondering if any one has tried this and if so, did you like the result? Did it make the car handle differently?

This has been discussed in the "tires and stuff?" forum. I'm going to 18" all around with taller tires in the bake to keep the rake. There are some fitment guides (links to) listed as well.

The DCX recommends 18 inches all around as an alternative "winter tire" combo for the Crossfire. That will still clear the brakes and save you some money and unsprung weight. You have a pretty good selection of both Mercedes OEM or aftermarket rims in the 18 inch size and the variety of tires is much better than the 19 inch size. Only if you are planning on entering stock class SCCA events are you compelled to retain the big 19 inch rear wheels.

17" wheels will clear the brakes on any non SRT Crossfire. I went to 18" all around but would have pefered 17" front and 18" rear. Besides a better ride you will also notice that tires are much less expensive and you have a much larger selection to choose from.
