Need some thoughts on a tire/wheel mount issue
I took my 255/55/16 tires and 16x7 wheels to a local (small) tire shop and they could not get the bead on the tire to pop out on the back of the wheel.
The approved wheel width on these tires is 7" to 9" so I know the width is good. the tire does have a nice size bead on the inside of the wheel where the tire will not pop over.
They were not able to get it, do you think i should try somewhere else or try different wheels?
the tires are on the wheels now but they are not aired up and the bead is not popped out on one corner of the tire.
Any suggestions?

I called mickey thompson and they said there was no reason why that tire and wheel combination would not work. He said for me to take it somewhere else. I guess those guys just did not know what they were doing.

and the re-link was funny too.
Nice...glad someone could pull one on you!
And yes...take it to another shop. In my area, Discount tire has a "cage" made just for the "difficult" beads~ They lock the wheel in tire in there just in case it explodes trying to get the bead too seat.

the car actually looks good charred.
I tried to get some Kumos on that were the same size as the Hoosiers that I had, two shops spent lots of time, the Kumos were not going on. I found that the hoosiers have a bead that goes IN about an inch, so they wrked. Sounds like you should reconsider. Woody

I was able to get them on, I took it to sears, they charged me $47.68 to just basically air them up and balance them. I told them/showed them that they were still not seated properly. the idiots tried way overinflating them and they would not seat. I told them to dismount and remount them like i said and use plenty of soap but they would not listen. I got a refund, took it to a tire place that specializes in aftermarket wheel/tire setups. They had the tires on in 5 minutes and good to go and best of all did not charge me anything after me telling the headaches I had today lol. I plan to go back next week and buy 2 tires for the daily driver since they were so nice. When I spoke to Mickey Thompson they told me there was no reason why those tires and wheels would not work, he said they were the correct width.
Here they are, if I can cut a few tenths off my 60' it was worth all the headache:

Show us what a code 3 can do! All I hear is 185, 185, 185!!! I want someone to hit 11's with a code 3. (especially because I just got one) I'm tired of hearing the code 3 is the lazy mans way to make ho hum power. Well no one's actually said that but it gets inferred loud and clear. I think you have a good chance at 11.xxx with the drag radials. Those radials have to be good for 2 or 3 tenths. Good luck and may the force be with you young photomanwalker.

for example:
the 100 octane tune makes a big difference, some have drag radials and if i recall correctly they all have the $1500 NW intake manifolds.
but i am not into bench racing so before this turns into a bench racing fight we will just have to see this summer won't we
if we can, great, if we cant that is just more incentive to try harder and mod some more.
