Default Construction Zones and Crossfires don't mix

About two weeks ago, we come up on a construction zone on a Sunday. No one around working but still took it kinda easy. Suddendly we hit a break in the pavement in our lane. Car seemed fine at the time but I thought I felt something wasn't the same. Maybe just my imagination. The further I drove it home, I forgot about it and everything seemed fine, no low tire bulb.

As a week or so goes by I thought I could feel a shake at 30 MPH that wasn't there before. Today I jacked it up and spun each wheel individually. Both right side rims bent. Front worse than the back. Bummer. I called my wheel guy, he is in the process of moving his shop and won't back online for two weeks.

Another chapter to add to my "this has never happened to me before".

You want to play, you got to pay...

Ouch. My girlfriend hit a pothole while driving my car hard enough to blow the tire out, but rims were fine

I had both wheels repaired (straightened) and one had some curb rash that was repaired also. $170 for both with tires mounted and rebalanced.

Took it out on the highway finally this weekend and perfect as new again.

The "Wheel Dr" here in Cincinnati does a great job if anyone needs some wheel repair.

James, will your insurance cover this? Or, have you checked with the road authorities? They often will cover the damage if it was not your fault.

FP,

I just changed insurance companies and I really didn't want to file a claim so soon. I am sure they would have covered it 100%, maybe even new rims.

The road construction was quite a distance from my house, out of my state. When I went back the following weekend for some pics, the road was already repaired. I figured it would be a long drawn out process to try to get anything out of a state I don't even live in. If I would of had pics, maybe I would have persued.

So in the end, I decided to eat the cost, drive and enjoy my Crossfire and move on. It didn't cost me my life savings, and life is too short I am finding out as I get older.

James

Good advice from FP there, over her in the UK we can sue our local authorities for this type of damage

Here's a photo of memphis potholes and what they do to mini's. This same pothole also caused a blowout on a suburban in front of me. My tires held (i dont have runflats)

By the way T-Dot reimbursed me for the costs of the rim and the tire (cords were broken in tire)
