lowered springs legit?
Let me start off by saying I don't know **** about suspension systems..haven't made it that far in school yet Lol
But I just watched this video
These guys make it look easy , and It had me thinking after looking at my car for a few minutes that the stock height of the xf isn't low enough
I just did a quick search and the most commented and viewed threads on lowered springs were about cutting the spring but i don't want it done that way
I was wondering if anyone has purchased a set of lowered springs and installed them ?
From where and how much were they?
Did ride comfort get sacrificed ? And any bottoming out?
I don't want the car too low cause there are tons of potholes in Chicago , I just want it 1.5-2 inches lower ,enough to look good
Thanks

KW coil overs are junk,, even though the springs are ok ,they give you am adjustment that you can't adjust without compressing the spring because the adjuster in inside the spring mount read this and see the pic.

lowered with KW coil overs JUNK pictures by amx1397 - Photobucket
if you look up inside the spring you will see the adjuster that you can't get to with out removing the spring.
K W JUNK is not a coil over,,
KW does not let you change your spring tension
K W once installed at the tallest position, KW does not let you raise the car higher yet it has droped the rear by 2" it that is too much you can not raise the car any.

First off not ALL KW coil overs are junk. Tons of folks run their systems and their rides are freakin' nice. Having said that their system for our car is lame because it isn't even a true coilover & they aren't easy to adjust because our cars use the old school coil and shock vs a strut.
I installed Eibachs but H&R also makes a set as well. Also keep in mind that our cars use spring pads of various thicknesses so your drop may vary.

I am on cut SRT springs, as are many others, much higher spring rate than limited springs, much better handling, worse ride.
Keep in mind the springs are literally a drop in the bucket of expenses to properly lower the car, at a minimum, you will also probably need adjustable rear camber arms, adjustable front camber kit from KMAC, adjustable rear sway bar links, a good alignment shop, and plenty of time.
I would say it would be nearly impossible to do for under $1,000, properly, even if you do all the labor yourself. Just my $0.02

In that video all they did was swap springs which seems easy enough
Well yeah you can swap springs and call it a day... And then you camber is off abs your tires wear our fast and in odd ways.. but yeah you can then spend that $1000 on tires instead
Shortening the springs changes the suspension geometry drastically. To do a proper job it's gonna cost mony no way around it. You can cut corners but you have to make some sacrifices.
DIY proper job part list
Eibach or H&R Springs ~275
Spring pads (recommend 4-5 dot front, 2-3 dot rear) I had 1dot rears and while the look and flat stance was nice the sway/camber arm contact was not ~15pc ~60 total
Koni adjustable shocks ( not required but helps dial in comfort/performance) ~625
Adjustable rear camber arms (mikeR recommended) rear camber will be out of spec or right on the line. Without you will eat the inside of the tires up quicker. ~ 250 If you buy cheep rubber no biggie but if you run PS2s that's ~1000 a set
Adjustable rear sway links (mikeR again) not needed but allows longer, straighter suspension travel. Improved ride comfort and helps correct inner wheel well rubbing issue ~165
MB front bolts (if your lucky) corrects front camber but no adjustability. If they do not get you in spec (did not for me -2 and -1.6) you have to go K-MAC
MB bolts 15 per x2 or x4 depending if castor is out as well ~30-60
K-MAC ~400 + install (unless you have the tools)
Spring compressor for the fronts ~200 or beer if another member is close by with one
Alignment ~100 (inde) or ~275 (dealer)
Sooo low end decent job no tools needed everything in spec.
Springs - 275
Pads x2 - 30
Camber arms - 250
MB Bolts - 30
Alignment - 100
~700
Good job with everything needed.
Springs - 275
Pads x4 - 60
Shocks - 625
Camber arms - 250
Sway links - 165
K-MAC - 400
Spring compressor - 200
Alignment - 100
=2000+ and that's with doing the install yourself
I pulled prices out of my head from when I did mine so if I am way off somebody please correct me.
As stated before others have just cut springs and called it a day which is just time basically. All depends on how you want it to feel and how comfortable you are with the downsides of not doing it right. (tire wear, pulling to one side, other instability and stress on parts)

You are not driving a honda, the MB suspension has no camber adjustment from the factory and tires are not cheap. I was just trying to give you a realistic estimate, it is your car, do what you want...
