Smallest diameter wheel
 

Been playing with the calculator & looks like for a 7" rin 43mm offset is about centered but what about the smallest wheel diameter that will clear the brakes. Does anyone know if a 16" will clear ? 17" ?

What I am thinking is saving the stock wheels and tires for performance or maybe shows and using a smaller diameter wheel/larger diameter tire for a softer street ride and have the same size on all four The important thing is to maintain the diameter.

Since just about anything is available for a 5x112 (anyone know if hub-centric and if so, what is the hub diameter ?), This seems feasible if the right offset can be found. (suspect anything from 38 to 47 mm would work & 38 might look better but 43 should minimise torque loads.

The 2003 Mercedes SLK320, used 205/55/16's on the front, and 225/50/16's on the rear (same diameter as the Crossfires rear tire). They will fit right on the Crossfire, but it will look a little anemic with them. They will improve the ride, and (if your car's an NA automatic) they will make your car about 3/10's faster in the 1/4 mile, maybe better. But your car won't handle as good on a twisty road.

Thank you. Was thinking 225x60x16 on 7" or 8" wheels. I have two other 2 seaters with that size. Was thinking about these for DD and putting the originals back on for twisties.

BTW as near as I can tell both the automagic and the six speed have a .882 top. Assuming the trans locks up in top would expect the same Interstate cruise MPG from both.

That size should work OK without messing up your speed-o very much. MPG rating on the Automatic (according to the window sticker) is higher, (but there's a few 6 speed owners that may disagree).lol
I like your Reattas, I thought seriously about getting one as a 2nd. car at one time. I couldn't find a convertible for a price I wanted to pay.:(
Oh, the Goat and the Motor Home ain't bad either.

All just toyz but thank you, have been collecting odd cars that suit me for a long time (have trouble selling which is the other problem).

BTW if I find a Crossfire, I will need to clear out a garage space which means my other Reatta convertible will need a new home...

Thank you, am shelving the thought for the moment when I realized that the XF wheels are hub centric with a 66mm center. Aftermarket wheels particularly "Universal fit" generally have 70-80mm centers so one size can fit all. Guess I'll wait for some genny Merc wheels in 16 or 17 to appear on CL. Lotsa Mercs around here (live within shouting distance of Bay Hill - why there are so many Reattae here)

Also I do want to keep the TIPM & is another $130 to retrofit if not there. Add more if need hub rings. Finally factory wheels are usually "better".

Other factors: the fronts are 25.1" diameter and at full lock are nearly into the wheel well liner so that is a limit. The rears are 26" diameter and looks like 28" would not be an issue (Rears are also the most expensive and a bit taller would help lower the revs on the Interstate.

So will continue to look for a set of 16 or 17 by 7 or 8 with 35-38 mm offset wheels (prefer five spoke polished or snowflake) & 225x60x17 rears look good with 225x45x17 fronts.
