Default Towing with the Crossfire

I know the user maual does not recommend towing with this vehicle - however - has anyone had a tow bar installed on a crossfire - i am looking to do this mostly to rack the mtb bikes and tow a small trailer full of horse tack - about 200lbs max trailer?

I am looking for some ideas to manage the exhausts etc

cheers

Question Re: Towing with the Crossfire

buy a beater truck, the crossfire is not meant to haul crap around but two passangers and their free luggage. for beginners if the car was meant to haul there would be a bigger trunk and secondaly the exhaust wouldn't be in the middle, but what gets me is you want to tow? tow junk around with a $30k two seater sports car desgined, sports car inspired performance car? IMO its one of the dumbest things i ever heard.

If I ever see someone towing with a Crossfire it should be entirely within my rights to go and give them a verbal reprimand.

Then I'll take their keys and give them a 2 hour "time-out".

That's what Detroit Chrome Mountains ("manly" trucks & their kissin' cousin, the SUV) are for. You don't want to be towing anything in this car. It's not recommended (check your owner's manual) & trying to redo the entire exhaust just to drag some goodies around behind you would be an incredible waste of money & effort.
Why take the chance of ruining your Xfire?

The only thing a Crossfire should be hauling is AZZ.

I've seen a few Audi TT's and Z3's with a towbar. It might not make sense to a young guy to tow anything, but older folks with a lot more disposable income than you usually drives the car to places, like lake houses, etc.

Not really sure where my amount of "disposable income" became public domain?

It never did?

Towing with sports cars occurs more than you think, especially those people also come from touring motorcycle backgrounds.

So having "a lot more disposable income" makes it OK to do something stupid.

I'm a young guy with plenty of disposable income and I bought a beater truck(with built turbo engine) to haul my toys around. Age and income have nothing to do with the common sense that it takes to figure out that a little sports car shouldn't tow ANYTHING.

You might try PM'ing soloIIracer...he's got a custom hitch setup to tow a small utility/tire trailer for autocross...see this thread:
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ighlight=hitch
there may be some other threads with info if you search for "hitch" in the Racing forum.

It's not stupid. He's talking about towing 200lbs...there's no reason a Crossfire can't pull a little utility trailer safely. I see lots of sports cars doing it all the time to haul autocross gear.

I want to tow my Miata to the race track so that I can run them both. I would expect the crossfire's 3.2 l v6 should be able to pull the 5500 lb combined weight. (3200 lb xf + 2300 lb mx5)

It was done by a member on here a few years back...do some research in the "search feature" and you might find it....but, 5500lbs would be pushing it...3 yes...

When I first saw this request, I thought an afternoon of electro-shock was needed to bring this guy to his senses...
