You need one for the European market as the North American ones work to different standards.

Firmware is specific to the region the unit is being used in, so you would need one for UK/Europe for the Nav to work. Also the Am/FM bands are sightly different from what I have been told. I got this info from Becker.

I think that the FM channels in Italy at certain frequency centres may be missed. Look it up, I see that Italian FM stations are grouped closer together, stations in between North American stations will not be heard on a NA radio.

Yes the cd /cd changer will work but, as 180 said, the radio may not receive all stations.
the navigation may work if you have the local disc ,not sure about that tho.

European navigation cd's will not work in a North American head unit.

ok but most important for me is that can manage a cd changer or a mp3 unit and the nav radio should do it, the non nav not...is it right?

Why waste your money on something that only partly works and pay shipping from North America? Best Buy something that works 100% out of the box.
The non nav will do nothing for you except some stations. I had the six CD player and sold it, it worked fine from the nav radio.
Only some CD changers work on it though if that is what you mean.
