What happened with the oil filters??

Re: What happened with the oil filters??
Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about changing my own oil for the first time. So far, my parts list contains:
- one fleece filter, Chrysler part #5102905AB
- 8.5 quarts of Mobil 1 5W40 synthetic oil
- an oil pump
- some clean, dust free rags
- an oil filter wrench (suggestions?)

Re: What happened with the oil filters??
The story that I got was that the "stringed" (older) filters are cheaper than the "banded" (newer) ones. With our ever decreasing value of the dollar the "stringed" filter becomes the one the dealership stocks. Simply put, it is to keep profits as high as they can be.
I feel like I am going to break the "stringed" filter apart when trying to put it on the enclosure!

Re: What happened with the oil filters??
I can't tell you about aftermarket filters but the MB part number for the fleece is A000 180 26 09 and the Mopar number is 05102905AB , dealer cost is $18.55 and they want to make money so dont expect to buy them much under $26.00 or so. I have access to live stocking information and there is plenty in the Mopar and MB system so don't listen to all the part number change stuff.

Just to confirm (I'm losing track of all of the part numbers), the "4-fer" offer is for the fleece filters?
By the way, I went to the Purolator web site and found the part number shown on the germanfilters link for a Purolator equivalent does not exist in Purolato's lookup data base.

Re: What happened with the oil filters??
I buy some parts for my GTI and Crossfire from GermanAutoParts.com
They have the Mann Fleece filter for $11.01 each. They also carry the Hengst fleece and the Mahle fleece filters as well.
For those who want to run paper filters, GermanAutoParts also has paper filters from all three manufacturers.

I don't think Purolator has Fleece Filters.

Many makers of fleece filters for Crossfire's
I'm in the process of selling my SRT-6, but thought I'd pass on a little bit of extra info for this thread.
At least three companies make fleece filters that fit the Crossfire.
MANN
Hengst
Mahle-Knecht
(See http://www.germanautoparts.com/Merce...E2/271/4612755 for a seller that offers all three.)
The various MB and/or Chrysler brand filters are all likely made at various times by whoever wins the contract that go around. All are OEM suppliers and will make filters with factory MB (and in some cases AMG) markings.

Re: What happened with the oil filters??
The Napa FIL 7078 oil filter is a Mann HU 718/5 fleece filter (stamped on the filter). That is the Mann filter that Chrysler and Mercedes stocks for our engines under their own part numbers. They are $17.xx at my local Napa, and with a business discount I am buying them for $12.xx. However, it is not the filter that Napa lists for the Crossfire, but is listed for the Mercedes SLK. If you ask Napa to sell you a filter for the Crossfire they will hand you a paper filter. So, you need to ask for a FIL 7078.
