Default Twin Turbo

I have recently been thinking about twin turboing my 05 limited coupe automatic with 41k on the clock. I was wondering if this would be a good idea, or supercharging would be better? I just want to get some opinions on what problems I would run into with this project. I am not that educated on turbo manufacturers or how I would set it up. Feel free to add your two cents. I would think this setup would push over 400hp to the wheels thats if the driveshaft would hold up.

You would have to tear engine down and change rods and pistons. The amg rods are good for 400 hp but base mercedes rods will not hold. Base engines have too high of compression to add boost, and if you are tearing down the engine you might as well punch through the alusil coating and bore to a 3.5-3.7 and run forged pistons on the steel sleeves, do not resleeve this motor, the m112 block is cast around the sleeves which helps strengthen the block. Twin front mounted turbos are doable if that was all we had to do, there would be several already done. But if you could find a wizard that could tune the car when you where done with the motor, there would be several XFIRES shipped to him for the tune.

Well My friend, since you said this is not really something you are good at, let me try to deter your efforts by telling you that some really great professional wrenches have tried and failed to turbo this engine.

STOP! Do not buy anything until you spend the next 4 days reading all the attempts posted on this site. After reading all the failures ask yourself if you really have $5,000- $10,000 to just throw away. If You do, please send it to me. It will go to much better use.

In the event you are not deterred, please post the 23rd I'm building a turbo fire thread for us to read for the next 2 years.

I did read on a M-B site that it has been done successfully, with NA engines, but with the turbo in the rear...

Like I said, please provide a link. Maybe with a standalone, or piggyback but I haven't heard of any.

Thanks. Piggyback's or standalone's like I thought for them. Waste of owning a Mercedes and money if you ask me.

Give up the crazy idea or sell the n/a and buy an SRT6. Alternately, I have a 2003 A6 2.7T (bi-turbo, chipped with 318hp) MT6 which I would be glad to sell to you for $3-4k. It does have 231k miles and no a/c, but is in good shape. And the turbos are original.

The simple answer is, it has been tried and never done....way too many things that get in the way, especially tuning. Everyone asks this question, so don't feel bad...but if you want boost, trade up to an SRT...and there are at least a few go fast parts and tunes for it...and still affordable....
