Just looked at all of my caps when I checked the tail pipes and they are mint. Is it at all possible that your car was in or splashed with ocean salt water? Rusty tail pipes, buggered caps....... Take a good look at anything metal under your car. I might be a little peronoid but I had an Oldsmobile many years ago that had rust in the weirdest places and I eventually found out that it had been under water. I'm not saying that it was under water as you would find rust under your dash etc. but a foot or so of ocean water would do it. Again it is a real long shot!!
I hope I'm wrong!
PS I know I spelled peronoid wrong!

I noticed it months ago that behind that cap, water accumulates alot after car washing my car. It may have been caused by car wash chemicals being accumulated behind the cap.
I made it a habit to removed the cap and dry the inside every after car washes just to prevent rusting of the bolt.

It is 100% without a doubt the result of Wonder Wheels! I knew as soon as I looked at the picture. I and my friend used to use wonder wheels until we all had the same problem. If that stuff gets into the smallest hole in rots your car from the inside. DONT use it!!!

I wanna replace the badges with something else but can't get my head round thinking of something to fit.

My advice is use to use water, a sponge and elbow grease.

I only use water to clean my wheels, explain that?!
Re: Damaged wheel caps all round
Today I noticed the same corrosion on the front wheel caps. I have only ever used soap and water on the wheels, no acid based products. The wheels are waxed once a month so the brake dust comes off easily. I am an hour from nearest dealer who wants me to post the caps for inspection! then after analysis will order new ones if covered by warranty.
BUT
If this is not a known problem then why is it that the center caps are on back order and will take 15 working days to arrive.
While inquiring about the center caps I asked about the Startech Sports Exhaust, this can be with the dealer in 4 DAYS, the cost including fitting. ANYONE GUESS
£ 826.38
I'll ask next for price excluding fitting.

I beg all of you, please use nothing but soap and water on your wheels. I've ruined many wheels and had to learn the hard way about chemicals. I know the Crossfire is a brake dust making machine, but soap and water is all you should ever use. I've had my car a year now--4000 miles and the wheels look like day 1.
