Default MB engine and chassis

Does the Crossfire have the Mercedes M111 or M112 engine?
Is the chassis in fact an MB 170.465?

Thanks

The engine is indeed the M112 and the chassis is the R170 chassis but I don't know whether there may be some minor changes.

As for Chrysler content, is there any part on a Crossfire that is also used on another "Domestic" Chrysler vehicle, that is NOT used on a SLK320? The only thing I can think of other than maybe an emblem, and the tire pressure senders.
As is, is there any SHARED Chrysler parts on the car, not STYLE parts designed as replacements for the SLK.
Does that make sense?

Off the top of my head, the automatic transmission , Chrysler calls it the nag 1and is shared by many Chrysler Dodge Plymouth vehicles, interestingly though, it was originally designed by Mercedes-Benz and was adopted by Chrysler, because it was so reliable, with proper maintenance of course, I'm sure there are other parts but I can't think of them.

Yeah, but this is not a Crossfire only part, that is on the SLK as well. Same with the 6sp, it is in Jeeps, and also SLKs. Is there anything truly/only Chrysler on it. Just curious. I know 1 thing that IS Chrysler, the VIN!

So by knowing that it is has an MB M112 aka as the slk320/ slk32 engine and an 170.465 chassis,
I suppose that if I wanted to buy MB parts I could safely say that I have a 2004 slk320/32 and for the most part get the part that I need ??????

About knowing someone at MB, not!
But, I'm going to make it a point to do that, no sense in paying Mopar their cut on top of what they pay MB for the part, just sayin.

Does that make sense?
My '04 came with caps on the valve stems that had the Chrysler logo on them, does that count?
If you have a Crossfire and you want to save your hard earned cash when replacing a part, look the part over and see if it has a MB part number on it, 90% of parts have it. If the number starts with 193 XXX XX XX it is a Crossfire specific part and probably can only be sourced at Chrysler.
Parts made by Bosch etc have the Bosch number and the MB number on them so look for the Bosch part, no point in paying MB for having their logo on the part.

Speaking of spending hard earned cash.
Everyone has their favorite parts suppliers and they probably shop price as well. I usually spread it out for many reasons, but certainly price and availability is a the biggie for me.
Case in point, Autozone is running their 20% off over $100 and free ship plus $10 digital gift card.
Not bad, depending
on your needs

THANKS! I need some high priced parts for my El Camino, I'll check if they have them there. I am putting fuel injection on it, and that adds up.

I use a vendor (OE Discount Parts) for quite a few Crossfire parts. They handle several marques including M-B. In many cases when I order the Crossfire part, they contact me and let me know they're shipping the identical M-B part because it's cheaper. Last time this occurred was when I needed new wiper arms because I bent the original ones. Turned out the wiper arms were sourced from M-B.

They also happen to be located only 50-60 miles from me.

Thanks for the 193 chassis designation.

Can i still be confident that it is an M112 engine in the xfire?

thanks

Interesting note on the 722.6 auto trans. The one used in the Crossfire is made by MB in Germany, and the one used in domestic MOPARS is made by Chrysler in the U.S. under license. Strange thing is that a specific ATF is recommended for each. Shell 134 or other MB certified fluids are specified for the Crossfire, while ATF+4 is specified for the MOPARS. Have heard that this is the result of different shift programs. Common sense would indicate ATF+4 is fine for the Crossfire, the only result possibly being altered shift performance. This is a mysterious area.

Yeah, the 193 is the chassis code for the Crossfire but this uses the Mercedes parts numbering system. For all intents and purposes, the XF is a 170.465 (2004 SLK 320). As you'll find on XFs (and was mentioned above), 193 is exclusively a Crossfire part. For example, the headlight assemblies, which are made in Belgium. As with most Mercedes products, there's a lot of parts sharing. For example, the lower control arms on an XF should be a 202 part number, indicating that the part was originally used on the 202 chassis MB (a C-Class up to 2002). Not all SLK parts are 170, just those specifically used first on that model....which has a lot of 202 parts on it. As for the engine / Tranny: Yes, the engine is a 112 code....the next to the biggest displacement. In the US, the M112 ranged from a 2.6 liter(C240) to a 3.7 liter(ML350). The auto transmission is super tough (but service it every 40k) and is known as a 722.6. It's a staple in most Mercedes products from about 1996-2005. For clarification for the original poster, the M111 is a 4 cylinder engine mostly used in the C-Class (W202) in both N/A and Supercharged forms.
