Default Removed the rear cats and resonator

I had a local shop remove the rear cats and resonator yesterday, and the results are not quite what I was expecting. The idle isn't bad, but part throttle acceleration sounds like $&%#.

No offense to those that like it, but it's just not for me. If anyone local wants to work out a swap for stock, shoot me a PM.

I think there is a small exhaust leak. Could that account for a good portion of the noise pollution? From the videos below, does mine sound normal to those with the same modifications?

WOW ....not for me either. I'd look for a leak and if no leak get the cats back on.

Removed just the resonator about 6 weeks ago. Had it put back on yesterday. Wasn't too loud but the sound just wasn't right. On acceleration, it sounded fair and at cruise it droned a little. From reading other posts, it seems most exhaust mods on the srt just don't sound that great. Never went backwards before, I must be getting old. Driving 1000 mile round trip this week down to Florida, it will be nice without the drone.

I eliminated all 4 cats and the car is still pretty quiet. (It smells though) Just put the resonator back on if possible and I think you'll be happy.

Here's another video, but the audio just doesn't do it justice. I couldn't help but laugh at how loud it was.

Sounds like mine and I have no leaks. I have been looking for a short light and straight muffler to install in the straight piece to cut down on the drone, something like a cherry bomb. The drone for mine at 65-70 is the worst.
When I had the rear cats only removed the sound was great, and I could still hear the supercharger work! When I went the next step and removed resonator it went from great to crap. I do not recommend removal of the rear cats combined with removal of the resonator.
If anyone in Alabama with an SRT-6 wants to delete thier resonator I am interested in a swap for your stock cat back.

Before I do any exhaust work, I'm first going to install the headers that Speedriven is producing... From there, I'll know best what to do in the sound dept.

I think headers are going to make it noticeably louder, and I'd hate to make it unbearable...

That sounds horrible....No offense~ You really need not only cut off the muffler and resonater, but you also want to add a larger diameter mid pipe 3in from the header back to a source of silencer like an xpipe straight back to a nice muffler.

What you did will add an ugly sound and loss of performance

I've heard several SRT's with cat-delete and resonator removal, but they also had the X-pipe.

Without the X, the H-pipe does a poor job of noise cancellation and the result is the drone.

For a while now I have been considering removing the rear cats (only) and this thread has renewed my interest. Based on what I have read on the forum (and this thread) it sounds like removal of the cats alone is the way to go. Is there any down side to this mod? I am thinking about the possibility of failing emissions tests (VA), reduced gas mileage, increased output of pollutants. Are these all realistic side effects to be concerned about?

It sounds like an old school bus. Stock sounds better.

If anything, mileage should improve. The stock cats are insanely dense. Secondly, the rear cats aren't even monitored, they are in place due to California and European compliance... So they're redundant to begin with. As for pollutants, the SRT has a pretty rich exhaust anyways... these aren't Priuses.

In some (most?) jurisdictions the removal of any anti pollution equipment will lead to the immediate failure of the emmisions test if the absence is noted.

Tis nice not to have to go thur inspections! I guess I've been lucky as I've never lived where I've had to get inspected.
