High Oil Temperature
Hello all, I have a 2005 Limited, A/T, with just over 50,000 miles. I have owned it since August. I recently had a small oil leak that my mechanic diagnosed as the oil level sensor. I had it replaced and it seemed to address the leak. I drove the vehicle a few days later, and after a short distance the high oil temperature warning came on. The vehicle had been idling for a bit before that came on, but when I drove it again from a cold start the warning came on again within 15 minutes of regular driving.
I took it back to the mechanic who hooked it up to the OBD and couldn't find an issue and said the warning came on with the oil temp around 180 degrees. My best research found the oil temp runs normal between 200- 240 degrees (correct me if I am wrong) and isn't a cause for concern until it reaches 280+.
My mechanic is still trying to do some research but thinks the sensor is working properly.
I know the oil temp sensor is connected to the oil level sensor I just had replaced. It wasn't a cheap part to get and took several hours of labor and I would hate to have to have the whole thing replaced again, especially if that is not the problem.
Does anyone have any guidance or suggestions?
