Exclamation High Oil Temperature

Hello all, I have a 2005 Limited, A/T, with just over 50,000 miles. I have owned it since August. I recently had a small oil leak that my mechanic diagnosed as the oil level sensor. I had it replaced and it seemed to address the leak. I drove the vehicle a few days later, and after a short distance the high oil temperature warning came on. The vehicle had been idling for a bit before that came on, but when I drove it again from a cold start the warning came on again within 15 minutes of regular driving.

I took it back to the mechanic who hooked it up to the OBD and couldn't find an issue and said the warning came on with the oil temp around 180 degrees. My best research found the oil temp runs normal between 200- 240 degrees (correct me if I am wrong) and isn't a cause for concern until it reaches 280+.

My mechanic is still trying to do some research but thinks the sensor is working properly.

I know the oil temp sensor is connected to the oil level sensor I just had replaced. It wasn't a cheap part to get and took several hours of labor and I would hate to have to have the whole thing replaced again, especially if that is not the problem.

Does anyone have any guidance or suggestions?

To my knowledge there is no oil temp sensor, only an oil level sensor the comes on if it is low or overfilled.

Where did this warning sensor display this ?
I'm positive we don't have an oil temp sensor and I suspect "High Oil" was referring to the amount of Oil such as overfilled

I suggest you find an independent shop the works on Mercedes. You actually own a 2004 Mercedes SLK320.

I just reread your comment, I will have to check the oil level again. I made sure it wasn't low, but didn't really make sure it was over filled.

Yep, that's what the hi signal means. Do you have an owner manual? If not, you can download it here for free.

That indicates you have to much oil in the engine
The maximum amount is 8.5 quarts and often even 8.5 is a bit to much.
Most of us only put 8 quarts in when changing the oil as the pan always has a small amount of oil after it is drained or vacuumed out
Drain out about a quart and you should be good
Check again when the oil is completely settled and add a bit more if needed
