Oil level sensor
Oil level sensor
Just want to make sure I'm doing everything right and hopefully understand exactly what I need to fix :-)
2014 CF. Oil level light comes on and stays on when starting for about 10 minutes or so. Then it will go off and sometimes seems to randomly come on when driving.
Doing the check through the dash I get OK (see pic) and checking via the dipstick all looks good which seems to confirm the one sensor (this is done after a warm up, level surface a few minutes after shutdown).
From what I recall reading there are two different sensors. One does the oil level reading for the fast readout, the other sensor is for the idiot light. And then in my case there is maybe something wrong with the idiot light sensor?
Next steps on this, or is this just a part replacement and if so is there a p/n to order? Not a huge deal knowing the oil level is fine but would be nice to resolve if it can be fairly easily.

Re: Oil level sensor
Check your oil level when the car has sat overnight on a level surface. If it is coming up as full it is fine, the sensor in the pain does fail and will go on and off (the yellow light). On the SRT-6 to replace it we have to drop the oil pan, im not doing that for a dumb sensor that I know is faulty.
My advice, check your oil level periodically and ignore it. If you cant, replace the oil unit in the pan to fix it.

Re: Oil level sensor
Thanks, that is helpful. I'm not dropping a pan for a sensor either, especially when there is a second sensor that shows the level as well.
I can check the oil periodically, not an issue if the oil level is fine.
Next oil change I'll make sure to get a very accurate drain and fill as well so I can be certain things are spot on.

Re: Oil level sensor
First, you do not have a 2014 Crossfire! Second, errors in the oil level have been linked to TOO MUCH OIL in the engine. I would suggest not filling the oil to the max level on the dipstick (if even slightly off level will read too high triggering the sensors). The absolute oil level test is the OEM dipstick on level ground. There is history of a level sensor being 'stuck' or defective (some say due to chronic overfilling allowing the sensor to eventually stick). There are .pdf documents here in the forum to replace a defective sensor (if it is stuck). Good luck!

Hah, yes, typo. 2004. It's hard for me to imagine that it is a 2004 because it doesn't look that old!
And interesting point on it possibly being too full. Will definitely do some good measurements next change as I mentioned. I didn't do the last oil change so hard to say and the dipstick definitely shows it full.
