Question Oil level sensor/system

Anyone else ever have a problem getting the x-fire to check it's own oil level with the on-board system? I've read the owners manual (I know!) about 10 times and tried to get the thing to work about 40 different ways to no avail. Supposedly the computer can tell you if your oil is too high or low? I just check it the old fashioned way anyhow, but it still bugs me! Anyone with any thoughts?

The trick is to turn the car off and wait for a few minutes before pressing the button twice.

Also, about 10 seconds after you turn the key on you will see a little oil can appear on the top LCD display. You have to wait for that to appear before you press the button twice.

ya...thanks...I already tried that...
I actually went so far as to stopwatch the whole procedure as outlined in the manual.

I think I'll stick with the dipstick method! Tried and true.
