Default oil pressure and the oil light

Ok I can normal find answers to what I'm looking for by searching but I can't find this. My oil light came on this morning, I'm assuming it's just the sensor (but we know what assuming does). My question is does the oil level light have anything to do with oil pressure. I have Mobil 1 0 40 filled to spec. Motor sounds fine. Sometimes it stays on before I turn the car over, others I have to start it to come on. Once I had to Rev it to 2 grand till it came on. Just now I revved it to 4 and didn't come on and all sounded well.

I'm pretty confident it's the sensor, but would like to know if pressure is related to it and if not will the check engine light come on if low pressure is present. Sorry for any run on sentences and thank you. This forum has been tremendous help

I think the oil light is just for level.
I think the Check Engine comes on for pressure, not sure though. From the manual.

28. Oil Level Indicator Light
With the key in the ignition switch turned to
the ON/RUN position, the oil level indicator
light comes on. It should go out immediately
when the engine is running. If the light does
not go out, or comes on while driving, the engine oil
level has dropped to approximately the minimum
mark on the dipstick.
CHECKING ENGINE OIL LEVEL
A sensor in the oil pan allows oil level to be checked
without opening the hood. It provides an accurate measurement
of oil level, whereas the low engine oil level
indicator warns that oil level is definitely too low. With
the vehicle parked on a level surface, the engine is
warmed up and shut off for approximately five minutes.
When the ignition switch is turned to the ON/RUN
position, an ISO oil level icon appears in the trip odometer
window and a “clock” icon in the cumulative odometer
display. Pressing the **** to the left of the speedometer
twice displays one of the following messages:
˛ OK
˛ -1.0 Q (-1.0L)
˛ -1.5 Q (-1.5L)
˛ -2.0 Q (-2.0L)
˛ HI

A check engine light for oil pressure? And just what DTC would that be?

I've driven three Crossfires a total of 80,000 miles and I am quite certain our cars were built without any monitoring of oil pressure what so ever.

I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. Idling oil pressure with 0W40 at operating temperature is specified to be "at least 3 pounds". That means you'd get no indication of low oil pressure until you have no flow at all - there would be no warning what so ever. (In the 1970's I know that the oil light came on in the Pontiac 350 V8 at 10-12 pounds, but we all ran 20 or 30 weight oils back then.)

This is why my cars get an oil pressure gauge!

These engines are the easiest to add an oil pressure gauge to that I have seen since the 1970s.

The sending unit goes in place of the little plug in the front of the engine a few inches below where the oil filter carrier screws in.

I was just guessing, that is why I said I wasn't sure. I have not owned any car built in the last 50 years that did not monitor oil pressure.
As for the O.P.'s issue, have you checked the reported level in the cluster?
