The over the tire straps have ratchets that will pull the tires up to the bar on the trailer, which holds the car in place. I put the front safety chain on the frame by the control arm. I put the rear chain over the rear stiffening brace bracket (Roadster only). I didn't have any trouble and every time I stopped I checked all of the straps and chains.
I was worried about the front facia hitting the trailer because of height, but that didn't happen. If you're worried about the clearance on the nose, you can take a couple of sections section of 2 X 8 and put them under the front tires. Just secure them to the trailer with carriage bolts.

Thank you for the warm welcome and the detailed breakdown of your transport from NJ to Ohio!

It is very reassuring to hear that the over-the-tire straps worked well for you. I’ve been slightly concerned about the front fascia clearance, so your tip about using 2x8 sections under the front tires is excellent, I will definitely prepare some blocks and secure them as you suggested to give the nose that extra bit of breathing room.

I'll also keep a close eye on the safety chain placement near the control arms and braces. It sounds like the 'check at every stop' rule is the way to go for peace of mind. I appreciate you sharing your experience; it has definitely made me feel more confident about using a U-Haul trailer for the move.
