One more tip if you do use a U-Haul trailer. Check all of the lights before you leave their lot.
When I got home, I found that the three lights in the center weren't working on the trailer. It wasn't a big deal, I just spliced the wires and taped them up. No other problems with the trailer and it was a very reasonable price.
That is a great final tip. I will definitely do a full walk-around and test the brake lights, turn signals, and running lights before I leave the U-Haul lot. It's much easier to have them swap the trailer for a different unit right then and there than it is to deal with a wiring harness or splicing mid-trip.
I really appreciate all the advice you've shared from the strap placement to the clearance blocks and now the lighting check. It has made planning this move a lot smoother. I’ll be sure to update the thread once the trip is complete!
