Yes there are 4 sensors, we call them O2 sensors or Oxygen sensors. There are 2 before the catalytic converters and there are 2 next to the front of the transmission.
I agree with your mechanic and I would also use Bosch replacement sensors.
Or you can do a cat delete and get them coded out
