Yes I'm aware of the ESP indicator light. I'm actually starting to think that it might be the locking torque converter. I didn't realize that these cars were equipped with them.

"Gear changes with much greater speed and response and a torque converter lockup function above first gear round off the innovative configuration of AMG SpeedShift." I got this off of a C32 stats page.

I had a locking converter in my Dakota which didn't lock until it was in overdrive. This particular converter locks down low [first gear or slightly higher] from what I have read and experienced. Still I find it strange nonetheless...
