Default Engine surging

Since I bought my '05 SRT-6 I have been experiencing a slight surge from the engine/transmission. It happens very intermittently and can sometimes not occur at all during a day of driving. It'll happen while in drive and when I manually set it into first and take off quickly. I'm wondering if the transmission is low on fluid as it seems to occur while exiting a turn. I will try to duplicate tomorrow and see if there are any consistencies. Any thoughts?

Is it happening when the engine is cold ?

You know, it happens mostly when cold, but it will also happen [not as often] when at normal operating temps. Let me try to explain how it happens in both auto and manual mode.

When in drive and I accelerate very smoothly soon after it upshifts and slightly bogs I notice the surge, usually after exiting a turn. I believe it is the 2-3 shift.

Now when I manually put it into first and accelerate hard it turns into more of a hesitation, this happens while in first. I can swear too while driving I hear what sounds like a blow off valve from a turbo when that happens but I ain't got one.

I guess I should take it in and have them look at it.

Sounds like the ESC unit to me, does your traction control light flash a little when this happens?

I haven't noticed. I'll try to look at my dash the next time I think it'll happen. I'll also try driving with the traction control off and see if that still happens. Thanks!

I'm sure you know if you turn off the traction control with the switch the light will stay on all the time, but if you are losing traction it will still flash a little and stay on.

Yes I'm aware of the ESP indicator light. I'm actually starting to think that it might be the locking torque converter. I didn't realize that these cars were equipped with them.

"Gear changes with much greater speed and response and a torque converter lockup function above first gear round off the innovative configuration of AMG SpeedShift." I got this off of a C32 stats page.

I had a locking converter in my Dakota which didn't lock until it was in overdrive. This particular converter locks down low [first gear or slightly higher] from what I have read and experienced. Still I find it strange nonetheless...
