Good lord. That 3.5 is a heck of an engine, and from what I hear, basically bulletproof.
I'm not sure if I would give your friend a high-five, or shake my finger at him.
I know quite a few people that have had serious mechanical problems with Nissan/Infiniti cars. One had to replace the tranny just after it went out of warranty. Even Toyota has admitted that their quality has slipped, and they are going to refocus on building more reliable cars like they did in the 90's.
