I've had a Bel Vector 940 that has saved my a$$ twenty times. I've used it for over five years and 180k miles (on three cars). If you have a heavy foot, it can give you just enough warning to bring the speed down to avoid the ticket. Of course, I generally drive 75-85 so a hard tap brings me down to close to the limit. Just pay attention to the first warning beep - it could be reflected radar from up ahead.
I have heard nothing but good about the Valentine1 but it is expensive. I believe R&T did some independent tests and it barely came out #1.
So if you're serious, buy a highly rated detector and spend a little more. You get what you pay for. I intend to go V1 when my Bel finally dies.
