It was fading in and out - the "Service Required" light was coming on when I drove too close to Cellular towers. It's gone...

I have not tried one - yet. But they are supposed to be the best of the best.

They have been that price forever. That's what I paid for mine in '98. You get what you pay for. I bit the bullet back then and have never regretted it.

I think Valentines need to be mounted on the dash or clipped onto a visor. They aren't 'remote', 'wireless,' or 'hidden'.

Escort's new 9500 looks pretty cool. It has GPS built in and can tell you how fast you were going when you are hit with radar and it will let you program local alarms and such so they won't go off all the time. I personally don't need all that stuff - the 8500 x50 is good enough for me.

I've heard really good things about the Valentine, but have read enough comparisons to believe the Escort is just as good - for less.

Either way, you can't go wrong...

I've had a Bel Vector 940 that has saved my a$$ twenty times. I've used it for over five years and 180k miles (on three cars). If you have a heavy foot, it can give you just enough warning to bring the speed down to avoid the ticket. Of course, I generally drive 75-85 so a hard tap brings me down to close to the limit. Just pay attention to the first warning beep - it could be reflected radar from up ahead.

I have heard nothing but good about the Valentine1 but it is expensive. I believe R&T did some independent tests and it barely came out #1.

So if you're serious, buy a highly rated detector and spend a little more. You get what you pay for. I intend to go V1 when my Bel finally dies.

I have the SR7 plus shifters from Escort. I just had it installed at Tweeter yesterday. I must say that it's pretty awesome. All the sensors are hidden away and it seems to be working perfect. The only downside is it MUST be professionally installed otherwise Escort will void the warranty on it. I personally swear by Escort, after all they're known for being some of the best radar defense systems out there. I don't know, everyone has their own opinions. Check it out for yourself.
