Cutting costs by sharing platforms is ... controversial.

Nissan uses the same platform for every one of their cars, from the 350z to the Xterra ... which isn't a good thing for either, except that it keeps costs down thanks to less development and research. But the 350z could benefit from a smaller lighter chassis, whereas the XTerra would really like a stiffer and stronger chassis.
