There is a type of stainless steel chain-mail that lies between the shell and the Platinum honeycomb, it was most likey installed incorrectly at the factory. Most likely not enough matting in there or it slid out of shape why they where pressing the cat into its shell.

If the dealer will let you keep your old parts, I would ask for the cats back, because there is about $50 - $60 in Platinum and Pladium
