1,000 miles in
Well, the odometer on my '05 limited coupe rolled over 1,000 on a cruise last night. With three young kids, parents with full time jobs, soccer, baseball, etc, it's taken me more than a month to make those first 1,000 miles. My reflections so far...
- I still stand and stare at the car from different angles when approaching it in a parking lot. This car looks great no matter where you look at it.
- Love down shifting into 2nd gear and powering through a 90 deg turn, puts a real stupid grin on my face.
- Approaching the car at night and hitting the key fob results in a slowly lit cabin which is fun to watch, more stupid grins.
- Still getting lots of attention as you roll down the road. Lots of other sporty cars which come up fast in the rear view mirror to check the car out.
- Love the understated growl of the engine with your foot on the floor. Great exhaust note.
- Really love the fact that although I have been driving this car for more than a month in West Michigan, I have only seen one other XF on the road. Meanwhile hundreds of Vettes, Miatas, Boxers, etc. Feels a bit more rare and exotic.
- I have noticed a bit of wind noise at the drivers side window. Found the TSB here on the site but haven't had a chance to get it fixed.
- 1st gear is still sticky, especially when the car is cold, but the tranny seems much smoother in general now (or I have adjusted to it).
- CD player skips quite a bit when the weather is cold and the car hasn't really warmed up yet. I have found this to be the case in all my vehicles though.
All and all, I absolutely love this car and have never once had a doubt about the purchase. Now that Daimler Benz has parted ways with Chrysler, these cars will become even more collectable IMHO. Getting ready to attempt my 1st oil change. I have found lots of advise on the site and answers to every question I have ever had or could possibly conceive of. This is a great little community.
