Balto dealers
Texex:
I can see why you'd say that. Both DID try to bump prices at first...didn't most dealers? We have a local 'exotic' car dealer that buys/sells Ferraris/Lambos/Porsches/BMWs/Lotuses (Loti?)etc....some new, most not. Last week in the major newspaper he was advertising a brand new Crossfire for $42,995! Not a Chrysler dealer, lord knows where he found the car. I've dealt with him in the past, he's a snake. I'm delighted if he thinks he's going to make a killing on the car and instead takes a bath.
Both the the Balto. Chrysler dealers with all the cars on the lot dropped the extra charge literally within a week of when the cars were released. Both tacked on $5K at first, then tried $2K with little success. One currently advertises in the Baltimore Sunpaper in the Sunday supplement that the cars are MSRP. As I said, both knocked $500 off list with surprisingly litte wrangling.
Who knows why they're not selling around here. The Baltimore Washington corridor is a strange place. Lots of Humvees (both 1's and 2's) on the road. Not unusual to see a Lambo, Ferrari, Lotus, Aston Martin and even the odd Z 8 BMW on a fairly regular basis. Mostly around DC. Lots and lots of new 350Z's, Audi TT's, Jaguars, Vettes, Vipers etc. on the two beltways every day. Some I see daily seem to be daily commuter cars.
Maybe the Crossfire just doesn't generate the same buzz because although it truly is unique, it's one of many unique cars that blow by every day. Although it gets a fair amount of attention, I can't say that the attention it gets here is anything out of the ordinary.
Had the car in the dealership today getting some of those niggling things taken care of. Asked my salesman if they'd sold any cars this week. He said no, lots of lookers, but no takers.
Go figure. Keeps my car unique (I've seen only one other on the road). But I agree, it would be nice if they'd ship them off to areas where they'd be bought and appreciated.
I'd love to know what the real sales figures are nationwide against Chrysler's projections. Anybody out there have any info?
We'll know soon if we start seeing first, special interest rates and then, cash back offers. My bet is that if sales aren't what are expected, we might see some interest rate deals before Halloween.
