It will be off Season, after Oct, so should be OK, for lodging there are lots of places within a 1 hours drive: Robbinsville, Tellico Plains, Fontana Village, Deals Gap (NC Side on the Dragon), Some places on the North (TN) side of the Dragon, also Murphy, Andrews, even Knoxville. Take your pick & choose your route, lots of flexibility.
