Re: G-Tech pro RR
Well, the preliminary results are in...
First off, this thing has a giant suction cup to attach it to the window...this thing holds on really well. I wish my radar detector had a mount as solid as the g-tech.
There's 2 things I don't like though. The buttons, especially the large directional button feel kind of cheap. I don't think they are going to break mind you...it's just a "feel" thing. My other issue is with the display. The only adjustment is for contrast, and there's not a lot of adjustment to that. There's no brightness adjustment. At night it's very readable and not too bright. During the day is another matter, it's a little hard to see clearly, and if you're driving with the sun in your face you can forget it.
This thing has the ability to show a tachometer that it runs off of your cigarette lighter somehow. I was skeptical at first, but after a little adjusting it works amazingly well. A few high rev runs and the bright shift LED's worked really well. There's 4 LED's that light up sequentially starting about 500 rpm from redline. I haven't had a chance to do a full quarter mile run yet...but the little bit of messing around I did do left me reasonably impressed with the unit.
For anyone thinking of picking up one of these things, I highly recommend the RR unit. It has the road race mode and a software program for your computer that works really well.
In just the short time I had today to play with it I've been pretty impressed. No buyers remorse whatsoever. I'll post more when I have a little more experience with it under my belt!
