Stuck in Gear
A couple of weeks ago after pulling away from a set of traffic lights my car wouldn't change up gear. Even using the tiptronic, it wouldn't change. I stopped the car, moved the selector out of drive, through N, R and P, and back to D, heard a bit of a clunk noise going back into D. This still made no difference and it was not until I turned the ignition off and back on again did it correct itself. Since then it's been OK until the other day. After a 200 mile motorway journey and getting back to slower roads, I noticed the car had poor acceleration. Put your foot down and it would pull away really slowly, this time it was stuck in 5th!! I pulled over and stopped, and when I took my foot off the break the car did not creep forward as it usually does, the same in reverse, nothing. Turned the ignition off and on again and it was OK, but once it was again in 5th it just wouldn't change down...
It's an '05 with 18K miles on the clock, why would it do this ???
