I doubt the air filter increased mileage. A more free flowing air filter will increase the amount of fuel the engine pumps into the cylinders to compensate for the increased airflow. It could increase mileage on the interstate, but city driving it would decrease mileage. I'm pretty sure the synthetic oil is what gave you the increased mileage.
