Tony, I think using the vinyl is a fantastic idea. One of my customers makes a lot of the vinyl graphics you see on the NASCAR race cars, and it never even dawned on me to go that route. Using the model first is something I thought about doing.
Eric's photoshop ability is a terrific way to see it also. You're absolutely right about this forum, you couldn't ask for a more helpful group.
Lookin forward to seeing what ya come up with.
