I agree totally. I used to work at Quebedeaux Pontiac in Tucson, and they ALWAYS told people 3K miles, even when the manual said 5k or 7k. They used the "severe weather" tactic, dust, lack of humidity...I even heard a service advisor once tell a woman that Tucson's pothole issues caused the oil's viscosity to break down to to the shaking at high tempertaures!!! The computer should be able to tell our oil for us just fine - it has a sensor which detects deposits and other data, so it willa djust to your driving conditions and climate.
