There is some info here. Check P.7 (Squeaky Rear End >>Fixed). You can actually fix it yourself if you are so inclined. I have fixed mine 3-4 times. I live in the Midwest, and it always seems to happen with change in season (hot - cold, cold - hot). Easy Adjustment.

Personaly, I'm going with what the computer in the car says... it senses the condition of the oil.

I would never go with 3k... IMO it's only a money maker for the dealer...
I agree totally. I used to work at Quebedeaux Pontiac in Tucson, and they ALWAYS told people 3K miles, even when the manual said 5k or 7k. They used the "severe weather" tactic, dust, lack of humidity...I even heard a service advisor once tell a woman that Tucson's pothole issues caused the oil's viscosity to break down to to the shaking at high tempertaures!!! The computer should be able to tell our oil for us just fine - it has a sensor which detects deposits and other data, so it willa djust to your driving conditions and climate.

One more thing for the oil change watch list:

Make sure they reset that computer for you.
Had my second change recently, and had to turn around after half a block to get them to finish the job.

Yes, I could have done it myself, but after what these changes cost, I wasn't going to lift a finger.

Same happened to me except I caught it before leaving the lot. The service writer was ticked when I would not show him in my owners manual... told him to have the guy who did the work look it up in the shop manual. he also asked... "Can't you reset it yourself"? I could but that's not the way the system is supposed to work. To their defense... I guess it's a learning thing.

Still- thats the wrong attitude.. Should have been done right the first time, and if its not- happily make it right. (And if not happily- at least smile while you are doing it )

Just dropped the car off...
Was not treated to graciously...The service manager would'nt even crack a smile.
I didnt purchase my car from them. Anyway....he had quite an attitude...I just want them to fix some of the issues I have.

Thanks for the info on resetting the computer after the oil has been changed...when he calls to say the car is done I will make sure they know to do so.
He even admitted to the fact that they have only worked on about 3 of them or so...'Oh boy"!!

Go by the cars calculation.... Mobil 1 can handle even more than 7k miles but I will probably take it in at 7k anyways. You cant forget that these are M-B engines and that noone in their right minds would pay $75 give or take a few dollars... every 3k for a service..

I think I have found a new #1 for most ridiculous bullshit ever spewed by a "service" advisor.

Default Wind Noise & Radiator Hose

Went in to a Dealer I've Had Good Experience with in Rental and They Were Very Nice and Responsive. They Have Not Worked on Many CrossFires, However, and Cracked the Door Panel While Performing Adjustments for Wind Noise on Driver Side. They Had to Replace the Door Panel Which I Was Told Was a First and That Took an Extra Half Hour. The Process is 1- Adjust 2- Drive 3- ReAdjust So They Timed out before Completely Solving the Issue, However, the Noise is Almost Imperceptible Under 40 MPH Now. If AnyOne Else Has to go in for this Service I Would Request your Free Loaner as I was Waiting for 3 Hours and they Still Needed More Time. Hose Check Was UnEventful as No Service was Needed. As For Dealers Not Being Courteous Because You Did Not Purchase From them: They Should Be Jumping at the Chance to Impress you and Win the $3000-$5000 In Service Moneys They May be able to Garner! So if your Not Impressed Shop Around. Business Practice and Employee Ethic Vary From Company to Company. Just Try and Find One That UnderStands they Are Making an Initial Investment to Fix TSB Issues, But Your In the Position to Bring in Future Service Money and Even New Vehicle Money or the Trade In Bonanza!

When I first brought mine for the wind noise....I didn't get a free loaner...no phone call telling me they can't fix it that day...and no service done.. XFIREX has to stay overnight in their shop ops:

I think WE Crossfire owners should demand a good service since we're the ones buying their expensive cars!
