Default GPS Software

Forgive me if this has been covered before...I looked but couldn't find an answer to my question. I understand some of you have installed in-dash DVD/CD/GPS/Stereo systems replacing the factory CD radio unit. I've read postings comparing one brand (Pioneer, Kenwood, Eclipse) over another and those have been helpful. But I see "hints" within those postings that suggest while some aspects of these components work better in one brand as compared to another, little is said about the GPS software that comes with them.

My question here is: What GPS software would your recommend and which would you avoid? How good is Route 66? I would hope to have a GPS package that could be readily updatable, either by CD, DVD, or other input medium.

Thanks for your suggestions...
