I was running with 5% all around and 40% on the windshield - I got busted for the tint but the shop did such a great job that the officer could not find the edge of the tint on the windshield - so I stripped the tint off the door windows and went to the police department to get the fix-it ticket signed off. The CA law only prohibits "Film Covering" permanent or removable, but not dark glass. I am on the hunt for replacement windows for the sides that are factory dark (5% - 15%) so I can be legal.
With these pictures I have 5% on the rear and small side glass, 15% on the doors and 40% on the windshield.
It can be pretty dark at night (with no street lights) thru the door windows, but I have no problems seeing thru the windshield at night when I am out of the city.
BTW - the HP also nailed me for no plates but I was still waiting for the DMV to deliver my personalized plates. When the plates arrived I just velcro’ed the front plate to the bumper and when in for an inspection - no problemo.
Funny part was I put it on in the parking lot and as I walked into the front office I though - I bet they saw me on the surveillance camera - I looked at the monitor and the camera showed my car but not past the front wheel. Talk about funny.
Totally illegal in Canada, only portion that can be tinted is upper portion and must be part of OEM Specs. They use a refractor meter to gauge glass. No tint allowed on front sides, only side rears and back, no tint linitations.
In Ontario It's an automatic fine, Quebec some City's can Impound car.
Not worth the hassle.
