Been a bunch of creative mounts. I like mine on the dash at wind shield level because it is easier to glance at and not have to take my eyes off the road. It doesn't block my view of the road, just blocks my view of part of the hood.

The below-dash mounts might be better as a permanent install. Putting the thing low where the bad boys can't see it has some merit. Mine never stays in the car on trips and I only use it for trips. If a bad boy wants to get it, he has to take it from my pocket and not remove a window somewhere for self-service.
