I need to order a replacement piece for the light adapter.... Got the setup new at Christmas, I just don't use it enough to justify.

I also have the Nuvi 200. I know you said you don't want to use the windshield suction, but I'm going to suggest it anyway. The best place to mount it is tucked between the left of the gauge cluster and to the right of the driver's side A pillar, using the windshield suction mount. It barely obstructs my view, and it doesn't look as ugly as when people stick their GPS right in the middle of their windshield.

Been a bunch of creative mounts. I like mine on the dash at wind shield level because it is easier to glance at and not have to take my eyes off the road. It doesn't block my view of the road, just blocks my view of part of the hood.

The below-dash mounts might be better as a permanent install. Putting the thing low where the bad boys can't see it has some merit. Mine never stays in the car on trips and I only use it for trips. If a bad boy wants to get it, he has to take it from my pocket and not remove a window somewhere for self-service.

Rob:

How did you mount your nuvi 200, please show it without the GPS; I really like the location? I have a 200W and I don't want it to be permanent nor do I want to mar up my dash. I liked the Panavice mount if I was going to keep it in the car all the time, but I don't want the mount there when I dodn't have the GPS with me.

Rob,

I also like where you mounted the GPS...and I would very be interested in the type of mount that you used and what it looks like without the GPS in place. I am looking for a mount and place that does not block my view and can easily me removed, since I share it between vehicles. Also..do not want to perminetly mount anything to the dash or glove-box. Thanks for posting the pics.

youll both be disappointed then. i did want a permanent mounting solution, and even more important than that was getting the power cord out of my way while i was driving.

the nuvi 200 comes with that ball-and-socket suction cup mount. I removed the ball/suction cup part entirely. Then i sawed off the socket from the clip-on mount (so its now flat). that flat mount is attached to the dash (1 screw). Then i ran the power cord through the a/c vent right below it and routed it to a power source (the radio power).

i have a spare mount and power adapter, so if someone needs to borrow it, thats covered too.

i love the result. no power cord to worry about getting tangled up in, and if/when i sell the car, the garmin goes with it; its worth 1 screw hole. but sorry it doesnt help you solve your problem.

I have a Nuvi 200, but I actually like the suction cup windshield mount better. It's so much easier to see the map and info when it is at windshield level. You can follow the info it displays without having to take your eye off the road. I've had vent mounted and lower devices in the past and in heavy traffic it's easy to get yourself into trouble looking down at your GPS.

Rob,

Thanks for the pic. Although not totally portable...it does leave a very simple, streamline look...no big bulky mount to look at like some other solutions. I like it! I wonder if I could use Heavy duty Velcro to secure the mount to that location instead of the screw. Do you think it would hold? Also...cleaver idea to feed the power cord thru the vent!!

Also...do you interact with the screen while it is in the mount...or do you take it off the mount when entering any information of accessing other screens? Reason I am asking is I am right handed...and would have to use my left hand to enter info where its mounted.

Thanks again...and a creative solution...at no additional cost too!!

Ben

velcro should work well, as long as the adhesive sticks to the uneven (dimpled) surface of the dash.

i use the touch screen right on the mount; it very rarely gets removed.

Rob,

Thank you for the pictures, you're right it not what I was looking for, but if I was going to mount it permanently I definitely like your solution best. Thank you.

NXMXS,

Good point. I forgot about the "dimpled textered surface". That may be a problem for the velcro to stick. I will try it and let you know. I am also looking at the proclip design which into the gap above and below the air vent.

If anyone has used this specific ( air vent proclip mount) ...please reply...Thanks
