Default Portable GPS - Mounting Recommendations

Hi,

I have a Garmin Nuvi 200, and really like it...and wanted to know if anyone has used an aftermarket mount in the Crossfire...I believe I heard of one that clips onto the air vent.

I did not want to use a suction cup mount to the windshield, because of blocking my view.

I'm looking for something that is sucure and in good view....and I do not want to mount to the top of the dash either Any comments and recommendations would be appreciated.

Also, a set-up that can be removed easily is a big plus.

Thanks

Thanks...I think that is the type of mount that I want...ut from the pic..it looks like it attaches to where the silver paint trim is...will this scratch and wear away the paint if you take it off frequently? How long have you had this model from Proclip and what has been your experience with it. Also...is it secure when when stopping hard or cornering hard?

I'm not a big fan of cluttering up the A/C vents. My solution...

I took an old credit card, folded it in half (the long way) to a 90 degree angle, and attached it to the back of my Magellan. Then I insert the protruding credit card edge into the gap under the radio. Sometimes, I put it in the gap above the radio.

I can put it there and take it off in nano-seconds and it stays in place while driving with no problem.

Absolutely brilliant. Do you have an extra credit card? I am out of these. One that is still valid would work just as well.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. They are all good ideas.

I do not want to perminently mount anything to the dash or interior.
The credit card idea is an interesting one...I do not want to block the radio or climate controls...but maybe there is another area where there is a gap large enough to secure it. I will have to re-look at the interior...but very clever idea!!

The pro-clip still may be the best and most secure mount.

For the comment on mounting it next to the rear view mirror...is that with the suction cup...or some other method? A pic and comment would be appreciated.

I considered velcro on the sun visor...but the sun visor is too wide and blocks to much view in the down position...but maybe I will look at the credit card L-Bracket idea and try that with the visor in the up position.

Any other ideas would be appreciated. This forum has some of the most creative people I know...with a passion to enhance their Crossfire cars...but still keeping them looking stylish and un-cluttered. The beauty of the Crossfire is untouchable!

Thanks

I have my TomTom XL mounted to a circular bean bag. Forgot the brand, but garmin makes one. They all have a hard flat center that the standard suction mount sticks to. The weight of the bag and the non skid bottom keeps it in place on the Xfire textured dash.

I needed a way to use it on multiple cars, and this works for me. And it fits in the glovebox just fine.

LOL... Geez, not even one comment. So, it looks like no one liked my mounting suggestion or I'm just being shunned. I take it
you guys go for the cluttered look blocking your A/C vents, and center console controls etc....

Oh I like it very much, but I don't have my GPS yet and I wanted to wait til I get one and see if my old eyes can see that far away. you can bet that will be one place I try when I do get one, I'm not a big fan of cluttered either.

Is that holder for the GPS drilled into the glove box? I love the location, but I have mine with the section cup on the window, above the dash. Like your idea, but hate to drill holes.

Nope, no holes. The plastic mounting disc with super sticky tape is pasted to the glove box and the GPS unit is held on with the stock suction cup....

No one comments on your set up so you take as if no one likes it, but you need to comment and put down someone else's set up.

To each his own, i personally dont like the look of someting glued to my glove box. So here's a comment about your set up, now are you getting the attention you need? I dont wat you to think we are shunning you.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the information. I sure like it where you have installed, much better than on my window.

Thanks!

I do like the idea of the glove box mount. Wouldn't work for me though as the copilot finds any number of reasons to play in the glove box. I have the Garmin Nuvi 320 which would be a bit large for that mount anyway. Tried the suction cup on the window for awhile but that, well, sucked. I wound up sticking the circular base plate right on the dash. Put it left of center and as low as I could go and still get a flat spot. Can't beat it for convenience. I was afraid that the shiny black circle might be an eyesore but you get used to it.
