There is a big bicycle race going on down by the coast (Amgen tour of California - (The Company I work for sponsers the #2 team in the world -- "Team CSC")

Anyway - I knew that the race would take almost all the available Highway Patrol Officers to run this huge race thru the area so I figured it's a good day for a high speed run if I went out to the desert.

Conditions: Flat, two lane road - blacktop - in excellent condition - (no place for a CHP to hide)

I dialed Mohave Airport AWOS prior to the run -

Temp: 10.2 Deg C - - 50.4 deg F
Dew Point: 0.3 Deg C - - 32.5 deg F
Relative Humidity: 53%
Skies: OVC 080
Altimeter: 30.04 in mercury
Corrected elevation 2,358 feet ASL

Run one = 165MPH
Run two = 170MPH

It felt like the SRT could do more but I needed time to reach top speed and road was running out. But at least now I know that SpeedInnovation raised my speed limiter.

I forgot my camera at home (about a 1 1/2 drive) but didn't think I could take pictures at that speed - guess what - this car is rock solid and I could have steered the car with one hand and snapped a pictures with the other - next time I promise to remember the camera and perhaps some spotters with a camcorder....
I to was surprized of how solid the car felt at that speed. When I done the 186 mph I started at about 60 mph with about 1 1/2 to 2 mile's of road ahead of me. My car sit's real low, I can't even get a floor jack under it behind the front wheel without lifting it up at the front fender well. That may help me cut through the air a little better. It will be about another month before I get my little blue monster out of it's hibernation for the winter. I'm still looking for somewhere to try the 200 mark leagally, but if I don't I'll take a camera with me next time I make a top speed attempt.
