Curious to see how the top 0.01% of car enthusiasts live, I perused the
FerrariChat forums today and ran across
this thread. Basically, a guy wants to buy a new F430 but can't find a dealer to sell him one. I had heard that there was a two-year waiting list for these cars but it's actually much worse than that. According to
this post, there are so many people wanting to buy new F430s and so few allocated to dealers that dealers won't even put you on the waiting list until you've bought a few used cars from them and built up a multi-year service relationship. Some dealers charge a $50k fee just to get on the list and, no, you don't get this back (see
this post). So, to buy a new Ferrari, you need to buy two or three used ones first, pay to get on the waiting list, and then expect to pay at least MSRP (probably more) to get the car in a few years.
That's INSANE!! However, if I had the money, I'd do it in a heartbeat (and I'd keep my Crossfires).
