Default Ferrari Insanity!!!

Curious to see how the top 0.01% of car enthusiasts live, I perused the FerrariChat forums today and ran across this thread. Basically, a guy wants to buy a new F430 but can't find a dealer to sell him one. I had heard that there was a two-year waiting list for these cars but it's actually much worse than that. According to this post, there are so many people wanting to buy new F430s and so few allocated to dealers that dealers won't even put you on the waiting list until you've bought a few used cars from them and built up a multi-year service relationship. Some dealers charge a $50k fee just to get on the list and, no, you don't get this back (see this post). So, to buy a new Ferrari, you need to buy two or three used ones first, pay to get on the waiting list, and then expect to pay at least MSRP (probably more) to get the car in a few years.

That's INSANE!! However, if I had the money, I'd do it in a heartbeat (and I'd keep my Crossfires).

I think thats insane too, but i guess it keeps the value up.

My buddy has an 03' 360 and it really is a nice machine to ride in...but if i was in the financial position to purchase something like that id still probably buy something a little more conservative....turbo porsche maybe

$50k waiting list....keep your Ferrari.

Bad news about your father, but incredible news regarding the inheritance!

If you opened a museum, I would pay to visit!

I was really surprised that Ferrari customers put up with this from dealers. Presumably, these are incredibly wealthy, successful people with hundreds of thousands of dollars to burn yet they're lining up to be abused and bilked. I can see how this might drive someone to "settle" for a Porsche.

Back during the dotcom boom business jet manufacturers were doing the same thing. People were paying $50,000 (in 1980 dollars) to buy a place on the waiting line for a new Lear or Gulfstream.

The first place I tried to buy a Crossfire at (Feb. 2004) wanted $40,000 for a car that had 1500 miles on it. The buyer's wife had come back from Florida and found it in the garage and said "it goes or you go".

I'm not sure the buyer made the right decision...

Sidez it means the owner's wife had come back from vacation to find a red Crossfire coupe in her husband's side of the garage and she told him that he had to get rid of the car or she would divorce him.

I would pay to see them whether in a museum or not! Any chance of bringing them out to San Diego?
