In reading on the Por15 website I think that in our case it may work. The manufacturer doesn't recommend putting it over paint since if the moisture gets under the original paint it's going to rust and all come off. However, in our case since the moisture is getting to the unprotected metal from the outside in I think that it has a good chance of working. It all depends on how well the prep kills the rust.
