Let me see if I can put this in perspective. The vendor sent you the wrong part (his bad), but was/is willing to send you the correct part, and compensate you for the shipping? So far so good?
You send him the original part that your mechanic broke (your bad) and you want a full refund for the broken part? Why should the vendor eat that? I think your mechanic should eat that. No one told him to take it apart.

You are mad because you had to pay to have the original part taken out and re-installed. (I think the vendor should eat that cost as he was at fault for sending you the wrong part)

Do I have it right?
